         Second Sunday

                    In Ordinary Time

           January 17, 2010

First Reading:  Isaiah 62:1-5

For Zion’s sake I will not be silent, for Jerusalem’s sake I will not be quiet, until her vindication shines forth like the dawn and her victory like a burning torch.

Second Reading: I Corinthians 12:4-11

Brothers and sisters: There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone.

Gospel:  John 2:1-11

There was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding. When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to them, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, “Women, how does your concern affect me? My hour has not come.”

          PRAY FOR PEACE

Prayer for Generosity

Dear Lord, teach me to be generous;

Teach me to serve you as you deserve;

To give and not to count the cost;

To fight and not to heed the wounds;

To toil and not to seek for rest;

To labor, and not to ask for any reward –

except that of knowing that I am doing your holy will.

                                                  AMEN.

SEMINARY COLLECTION

January 16 / 17, 2010

The Oakland Diocese currently has thirteen men in seminary preparing to serve our parishes as priests. Seminary education and formation is costly, nearly $27,000.00 per year per seminarian. Once a year the Diocese conducts a special collection to help pay for these expenses. Please look for the yellow envelopes in the pews, and please be generous in financially supporting those called to serve us as future priests.

Lord Please remind me

Lord please remind me

Of promises I made in prayer

I said if you relieve me

Of burdens that I bear

I always would be trusting

And my faith would never stray.

I’d know You walk beside me

Every hour of the day.

But Lord, I’m only human,

And should burdens reappear,

I may forget I promised

To trust you without fear.

Again, please Lord, remind me,

I made a sacred vow

To never doubt Your goodness…

Lord, please remind me now.
