      Fifth Sunday

                    Of Lent

           March 21, 2010

First Reading:  Ezekiel 37:12-14

This reading is a loving promise that the Lord will put his spirit into his people and will let them live.

Second Reading:  Romans 8:8-11

Paul reminds the Romans that they are not people of the flesh but people of the Spirit because the Spirit of God dwells in them.

Gospel:  John 11:1-45

In great details John tells the story of the raising of Lazarus to life. Upon learning of the death of Lazarus, his dear friend, Jesus goes to comfort Martha and Mary. After proclaiming, “I am the Resurrection and the Life,” Jesus goes to the tomb of Lazarus and restores him to life.

          PRAY FOR PEACE

Prayer for Generosity

Dear Lord, teach me to be generous;

Teach me to serve you as you deserve;

To give and not to count the cost;

To fight and not to heed the wounds;

To toil and not to seek for rest;

To labor, and not to ask for any reward –

except that of knowing that I am doing your holy will.

                                            AMEN.

To Make Christ Better Known.

Thank you to all parishioners who supported this year’s Bishop’s Appeal. If you have not made your gift to the Bishop’s Appeal, please consider pledging or making a contribution at this time. The Bishop’s Appeal continues to be necessary because there are needs in the Diocese that cannot be effectively fulfilled by the individual or by the local parish.

Our goal for the year 2010 is $14,447.00.

Worldwide Marriage Encounter

“I place much of my hope for the future in Marriage Encounter”

-         Pope John Paul II

‘Marriage Encounter, yes! You are doing such important work in our church, especially in this world we live in. I will pray for you and your important movement.’

-         Pope Benedict XVI.

-

Married Couples: “Love is patient, love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is nor irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things. Love never ends.”

THE YEAR OF THE PRIEST

Prayer for Vocations

Good and gracious God, hear our prayer for an increase in priestly vocations.

Touch the hearts of young men in our world today.

Instill in them a burning desire to serve you.

Give them the courage to answer your call

with generous hearts.

Reveal to them a vision of your Kingdom.

Help them to see the joy of priestly ministry.

Lead them in the footsteps of your son, Jesus

Christ.

We ask you to bless our seminarians and

guide them on the path toward priesthood.

Strengthen them as they are educated and

formed in the duties and responsibilities

of the priesthood. Help them to become

faithful servants and leaders in the Church

today.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns now and forever.

                                                 AMEN
