            Sunday

           March 28, 2010

First Reading:  Isaiah 50:4-7

Isaiah describes an individual who had been taught by God how to reach out to others. He also describes this individual’s willingness to be beaten and spit upon, secure that with God’s help, he will not be disgraced.

Second Reading:  Philippians 2:6-11

Paul discusses how Jesus did not declare equality with God, but took on human form. He humbled himself enough to accept dying on the cross. God in turn exalted him and wants us to respect Jesus’ name and worship him.

Gospel:  Luke 22:14-23, 56

Luke gives a detailed account of Jesus’ last supper with the apostles, where Jesus tells them he will soon suffer in fulfillment of God’s will. After Judas betrayed Jesus, he was arrested. Although Pilate did not think Jesus was guilty of a crime, he gave in to the will of the people, and sentenced Jesus to death on a cross. Then Jesus was crucified and his body laid in a new tomb.

          PRAY FOR PEACE

Prayer for Generosity

Dear Lord, teach me to be generous;

Teach me to serve you as you deserve;

To give and not to count the cost;

To fight and not to heed the wounds;

To toil and not to seek for rest;

To labor, and not to ask for any reward –

except that of knowing that I am doing your holy will.

                                            AMEN.

HOLY LAND COLLECTION

On Good Friday our parish will take up the annual collection for the Holy Land. We ask you to be generous. Your financial contribution will support the works of the Catholic Community in the Middle East and to protect the Holy Places and Christian shrines.

Operation Rice Bowl

Palm Sunday – The Passion

The story of the anointing of Jesus is one of the few stories that appear in all four Gospels. As people begin to grumble about the cost and waste of perfumes, Jesus responds: “You always have the poor with you and any time you want you can do something good for them.”

As we continue our Operation Rice Bowl journey let us remember in prayer that we are one human family, regardless of our differences. Answering the call to love our neighbors will promote a culture of respect and lead to peace in our own community, and in communities around the world. May our fasting keep us mindful we are our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers.

May our almsgiving assist those in need here in the United States. 75% of our gifts to Operation Rice Bowl support Catholic Relief Services’ programs around the world. The remaining 25% of your contributions stay in dioceses in the U.S. to assist local hunger and poverty alleviation programs.

Please turn in your Rice Bowl Good Friday.

Worldwide Marriage Encounter

“I place much of my hope for the future

in Marriage Encounter”

   - Pope John Paul II

‘Marriage Encounter, yes! You are doing such important work in our church, especially in this world we live in. I will pray for you and your important movement.’

-          Pope Benedict XVI.

-

Married Couples: “Love is patient, love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is nor irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things. Love never ends.”

This beautiful reading from Corinthians truly embodies many of the learning’s that you will be exposed to during your WWME weekend. THE YEAR OF THE PRIEST

Prayer for Vocations

Good and gracious God, hear our prayer for an increase in priestly vocations. Touch the hearts of young men in our world today.

Instill in them a burning desire to serve you.

Give them the courage to answer your call

with generous hearts.

Reveal to them a vision of your Kingdom.

Help them to see the joy of priestly ministry.

Lead them in the footsteps of your son, Jesus

Christ.

We ask you to bless our seminarians and

guide them on the path toward priesthood.

Strengthen them as they are educated and

formed in the duties and responsibilities

of the priesthood. Help them to become

faithful servants and leaders in the Church

today.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns now and forever.
