      Second Sunday

                    Of Easter

           April 11, 2010

First Reading:  Acts 5:12-16

The people held the apostles in great esteem and brought sick people to them to be healed. Although some were afraid to be known, the number of Jesus’ followers continued to grow steadily.

Second Reading: Revelation 1:9-11. 12-13. 17-19

John depicts a vision of lampstands of gold and one like the Son of Man in a robe with a sash of gold. This apparition told John he had nothing to fear and then described himself as one who was dead but now lived again. He then instructed John to record any other visions he might have.

Gospel:  John 20:19-31

Jesus appeared to the disciples and breathed on them saying, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” He gives them the power to forgive people’s sins or hold them accountable. Thomas who was not present, refused to believe Jesus had appeared until he came to them once more. Jesus told Thomas to believe and added, “Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.”

          PRAY FOR PEACE

Prayer for Generosity

Dear Lord, teach me to be generous;

Teach me to serve you as you deserve;

To give and not to count the cost;

To fight and not to heed the wounds;

To toil and not to seek for rest;

To labor, and not to ask for any reward –

except that of knowing that I am doing your holy will.

                                            AMEN.

Worldwide Marriage Encounter

Married Couples: “Love is patient, love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things. Love never ends.”

This beautiful reading from Corinthians truly embodies many of the learning that you will be exposed to during your WWME weekend. Give yourself the gift of A weekend of Discovery; A Lifetime of Love! Please join us for our upcoming WWME weekend May 14 – 16.

YOUNG LADIES INSTITUTE #70, OAKLAND, CA

WOMEN LOOKING FOR THAT EXTRA SOMETHING????

Interested in doing more for the good of others within a group of women of all ages who serve under the patronage of the Blessed Mother and who support each other in all aspects of their lives? Consider joining the Young Ladies Institute (YLI), which was started in San Francisco in 1887 by three Catholic young women who were inspired to help an ill friend. The Institute has grown and is now made up of ladies of all ages. Our works of charity include many scholarship programs, youth activities, visiting the sick, financial support to many various charities, children in need, as well as to our seminarians for financial studies assistance. Last year we had as our special project supporting children in praying the rosary and exposing more young girls to YLI as well as to continue the growth and fellowship of our local chapter.

We meet at Mercy Care Center 3431 Foothill Blvd., Oakland, CA 94601 the third Saturday of every month at 10:00 A.M. Anyone who is interested may call Mrs. Teresa Orozco at 510-593-1124 (English/Spanish).

Always hope

There are times so difficult and hard to bear,

We feel we just can’t cope;

But when we take it to our Lord in prayer

We find there’s always hope.

He’s touched with each infirmity –

His Holy Spirit nigh

He knows just what we’re going through,

And always hears our cry.

Though circumstances may not change

The way we think they should,

He answers each and every prayer

For his glory and our good.

Thank you Father that we can rely

On your tender loving care,

And that you always hear and answer

Every single prayer.
