Fourth Sunday

                    Of Easter

           April 25, 2010

First Reading:  Acts 13:14-. 54-52

Paul and Barnabas addressed many people and large crowds gathered to hear them. Some of the Jews became jealous, and argued with whatever Paul said. But Paul and Barnabas continued preaching their message of salvation and everlasting life, until they were eventually forced to leave the town.

Second Reading: Revelation 7:9. 14-17

John saw a vision of many people surrounding the throne and the Lamb. One of the elders told him these were the people who had survived great periods of trial, but maintained strong faith in God. Now they would receive eternal protection and comfort from God as reward for their loyalty.

Gospel:  John 10:27-30

Jesus states that his sheep know his voice and follow him, and will receive eternal life. Jesus also says that no one can snatch his followers away, because God is greater than anyone who might try, and Jesus is one with God.

          PRAY FOR PEACE

Prayer for Generosity

Dear Lord, teach me to be generous;

Teach me to serve you as you deserve;

To give and not to count the cost;

To fight and not to heed the wounds;

To toil and not to seek for rest;

To labor, and not to ask for any reward –

except that of knowing that I am doing your holy will.

                                            AMEN.

A prayer for the sick

Creator of goodness and love, hear our prayers for the sick members of our community and for all who are in need. Amid mental and physical suffering may they find consolation in your healing presence. Show mercy as you close wounds, cure illness, make broken bodies whole and free downcast spirits.

May these people especially:

Fr. Tony Lachner, Eugene Demuth,

Bev Stehli, Patricia Mooney,

Mittie Phillips and Betty Parces

find lasting health and deliverance, and join us in thanking you for all your gifts. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ who healed those who believed.

                                                  AMEN.

WOMEN LOOKING FOR THAT EXTRA

SOMETHING????

Interested in doing more for the good of others within a group of women of all ages who serve under the patronage of the Blessed Mother and who support each other in all aspects of their lives? Consider joining the Young Ladies Institute (YLI),

which was started in San Francisco in 1887 by three Catholic young women who were inspired to help an ill friend. The Institute has grown and is now made up of ladies of all ages. Our works of charity include many scholarship programs, youth activities, visiting the sick, financial support to many various charities, children in need, as well as to our seminarians for financial studies assistance. Last year we had as our special project, supporting children in praying the rosary and exposing more young girls to YLI, as well as to continue the growth and fellowship of our local chapter.

We meet at Mercy Care Center 3431 Foothill Blvd., Oakland, CA 94601 the third Saturday of every month at 10:00 A.M. Anyone who is interested may call Mrs. Teresa Orozco at 510-593-1124 (English/Spanish).

Catholic Home Mission Collection

April 24/25, 2010

The second collection this weekend is for the Catholic Home Mission Appeal. This Appeal supports the Home Mission places right here in the United States where the Catholic Church struggles just to keep parishes open and to educate children. Some Dioceses are terribly short on priests, sisters, and the money needed to run parishes. For example there are only 70 priests in the whole State of Utah, 57 in Idaho and 45 in Wyoming. The Catholic Missions Appeal helps build community within the Church and works for the common good of Catholics in the United States. Please give generously to help your fellow Catholics here in America.
