      Fifth Sunday

                    Of Easter

           May 2, 2010

First Reading:  Acts 14:21b-27

Paul and Barnabas traveled to many towns and found many disciples willing to help them preach. They warned their disciples to the trials they would face. Paul and Barnabas then returned to Antioch, where their journey had begun, and told the congregation there of the progress they had made.

Second Reading: Revelation 21:1-5a

John had a vision of a new earth and a New Jerusalem coming down from heaven. Then a voice described Jerusalem as a place where God would live among his people and comfort them. The former world had vanished; and pain, death and suffering had left the world as well.

Gospel:  John 13:31-33a. 34-35

After Judas left the last supper, Jesus warned the other disciples that he would not be with them much longer. Jesus gave them a new commandment to love one another as he had loved them. He stated that their love for each other would distinguish them as his disciples.

          PRAY FOR PEACE

Prayer for Generosity

Dear Lord, teach me to be generous;

Teach me to serve you as you deserve;

To give and not to count the cost;

To fight and not to heed the wounds;

To toil and not to seek for rest;

To labor, and not to ask for any reward –

except that of knowing that I am doing your holy will.

                                            AMEN.

A prayer for the sick

Creator of goodness and love, hear our prayers for the sick members of our community and for all who are in need. Amid mental and physical suffering may they find consolation in your healing presence. Show mercy as you close wounds, cure illness, make broken bodies whole and free downcast spirits.

May these people especially:

Fr. Tony Lachner, Eugene Demuth,

Bev Stehli, Patricia Mooney, Mittie Phillips,

and Kathryn Letkey

find lasting health and deliverance, and join us in thanking you for all your gifts. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ who healed those who believed.   AMEN.

Extra Prayer

When the world falls down around you

And a prayer will see you through,

Say a prayer for someone

Who may need it more then you.

For who knows what hearts are breaking

In the silence of the night

Just that extra prayer you whisper

May help someone see the light!

Every time you help a stranger

With an extra prayer or two

You are building secret blessings

That will all come back to you.
