      Twelfth Sunday

              In Ordinary Time

           June 20, 2010

First Reading:  Zechariah 12:10-11.13.1

Zechariah describes the mourning that will occur over Jesus’ crucifixion. The people of Jerusalem will mourn him as they would mourn an only son or a fallen king.

Second Reading: Galatians 3:26-29

Paul reinforces that all those who accept Christ are equal in God’s eyes. Man or woman, Jew or Greek, is unimportant in God’s eyes if you have true faith in Jesus.

Gospel:  Luke 9:18-24

Jesus asks the disciples who they think he is. They reply that he is the Messiah. Jesus forbids them to tell this to others, and explains that first he must suffer, be put to death, and rise up on the third day. He explains to them that they also must be willing to suffer for his sake if they wish to be saved.

            PRAY FOR PEACE

Prayer for Generosity

Dear Lord, teach me to be generous;

Teach me to serve you as you deserve;

To give and not to count the cost;

To fight and not to heed the wounds;

To toil and not to seek for rest;

To labor, and not to ask for any reward –

except that of knowing that I am doing your holy will.

                                            AMEN.

The Year of the Priest

Prayer for Vocation

Good and gracious God, hear our prayer for

an increase in priestly vocations. Touch the hearts of young men in our world today.

Instill in them a burning desire to serve you.

Give them the courage to answer your call with generous hearts.

Reveal to them a vision of your Kingdom. Help them to see the joy of priestly ministry. Lead them in the footsteps of your Son, Jesus Christ.

We ask you to bless our seminarians and guide them on the path toward priesthood. Strengthen them as they are educated and formed in the duties and responsibilities of the priesthood. Help them to become faithful servants and leaders in the Church today.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns now and forever.

                                              AMEN.

A receipt for the value of the vehicle will be provided as a tax deduction.

Humor

Talking to your mom

Michelangelo was painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel when he saw on old woman praying the rosary. He decided to take a break and lay back on the scaffolding so the woman couldn’t see him. Then he proclaims in a loud voice, “I am Jesus Christ. Listen to me and I will perform miracles”.

The old woman, intent on her beads, does not look up. Michelangelo figures that she is hard of hearing, so he shouts, “I am Jesus Christ! Listen to me and I will perform miracles”!

With her head bent, the woman continues praying so Michelangelo shouts, “I AM JESUS CHRIST, LISTEN TO ME!” The old woman yells back, “Would you be quiet, I’m taking to your mother.
