      Fifteenth Sunday

              In Ordinary Time

           July 11, 2010

First Reading:  Deuteronomy 30:10-14

Moses petitions the people to follow the commandments God has set before them. He reminds them that the laws are not in the sky or far away at sea, but are accessible to them and meant to be followed if they wish to prosper.

Second Reading: Colossians 1:15-20

Paul discusses the divine nature of Jesus, and explains that Jesus was created before anything else. Everything else was “created through him, and for him.”

Gospel:  Luke 10:25-37

While discussing everlasting life, a lawyer mentions loving one’s neighbor as oneself. The lawyer then asks Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?” Jesus tells him about a man beaten by robbers, who was ignored by both a priest and a Levite before a Samaritan stopped and offered him aid. Jesus asks the lawyer who was neighbor to the injured man. The lawyer says “the one who treated him with compassion.” Jesus encourages him to go and to do the same.

            PRAY FOR PEACE

Prayer for Generosity

Dear Lord, teach me to be generous;

Teach me to serve you as you deserve;

To give and not to count the cost;

To fight and not to heed the wounds;

To toil and not to seek for rest;

To labor, and not to ask for any reward –

except that of knowing that I am doing your holy will.

                                            AMEN.

CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY

LATIN AMERICA COLLECTION

JULY 18, 2010

Although approximately half of the world’s Catholic population lives in Latin America, the Church in the region is losing members at an alarming rate. They are drawn away from the Church by other faiths and are often obligated to migrate in pursuit of a better life. These tensions can contribute to the destabilization of families and faith communities. You can keep faith through your support of the upcoming collection on July 18, 2010. Your generosity will support pastoral work that engages parishioners and fosters the faith. The Church in Latin America needs your help.

Please be as generous as you can

on the weekend of July 18th.

Worldwide Marriage Encounter

“I place much of my hope for the future in Marriage Encounter.” – Pope John-Paul II

“Marriage Encounter, Yes! You are doing such important work in our church, especially in this world we live in. I will pray for you and your movement. ‘- Pope Benedict XVI

Married Couples: In Colossians 3:12-14, we learn that we have been chosen – “And so, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. And, beyond all those things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.” Join us for our next WWME weekend September 17 – 19 and be comforted by each others- heart of compassion, kindness, humility, patience and love.
