Sixteenth Sunday
In Ordinary Time
July 18, 2010
First
The Lord appeared to Abraham, who saw three men standing near his tent. Sensing they were messengers, he hurriedly brought them food and water to refresh themselves. Upon leaving, the men told him they would visit in a year, at which time his childless wife Sarah would have a son.
Second
Paul discusses the suffering Christ endured for his Church. He describes his willingness to also endure suffering in Jesus’ name. Paul hopes that through his sacrifices, many people will become complete in Jesus.
Gospel: Luke 10:38-42
Jesus was welcomed into the home of a woman named Martha. She complained to Jesus that her sister Mary sat listening to him instead of helping with the tasks of entertaining. Jesus told Martha that her sister had chosen the more important task, and should be allowed to listen.

PRAY FOR PEACE
Prayer for Generosity
Dear Lord, teach me to be generous;
Teach me to serve you as you deserve;
To give and not to count the cost;
To fight and not to heed the wounds;
To toil and not to seek for rest;
To labor, and not to ask for any reward –
except that of knowing that I am doing your holy will.
AMEN.

Keep faith.
Support the Church in
The Church in this region is undergoing a great continental mission, intended to strengthen the faith of the people and to create leaders in their own lands. The Church is being weakened by the loss of its members because of economic migration, and it suffers from a low priest-to parishioner ratio. Today’s Collection funds catechesis and formation programs, evangelization, religious training, and other pastoral programs designed to strengthen and renew the faith. For the cost of your morning coffee, you could buy a child her First Holy Communion book. Can you spare a few cups? Please be generous in today’s Collection.

Worldwide Marriage Encounter
“I place much of my hope for the future in Marriage Encounter.” – Pope John-Paul II
“Marriage Encounter, Yes! You are doing such important work in our church, especially in this world we live in. I will pray for you and your movement. ‘- Pope Benedict XVI
Married Couples: In Colossians 3:12-14, we learn that we have been chosen – “And so, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. And, beyond all those things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.” Join us for our next WWME weekend September 17 – 19 and be comforted by each others heart of compassion, kindness, humility, patience and love.

I Said a Prayer
For You Today
I said a prayer for you today
I know God must have heard.
I felt the answer in my heart
although he spoke no word.
I didn’t ask for wealth or fame.
(I knew you wouldn’t mind)
I asked him to send treasures
of a far more lasting kind.
I prayed that he would be near you
at the start of each new day,
to grant you health and blessings
and friends to share your way.
I asked for happiness for you
in all things great and small.
But it was for his loving care
I prayed for most of all.
