Seventeenth Sunday
In Ordinary Time
July 25, 2010
First
Abraham pleads with the Lord, who planned to destroy
Second
Paul explains to the Colossians that through baptism, they are raised to life with Christ because they believed in the power of the God who raised him from the dead. Even though they once lived in sin. Their sins have been pardoned through Jesus.
Gospel: Luke 11:1-13
Jesus disciples asked him how they should pray. He gave them some phrases, now used in the Lord’s Prayer. Jesus also reminds the disciples how even men with sins are able to give things to their children, and explains how much more the heavenly Father wants to give to us.

PRAY FOR PEACE
Prayer for Generosity
Dear Lord, teach me to be generous;
Teach me to serve you as you deserve;
To give and not to count the cost;
To fight and not to heed the wounds;
To toil and not to seek for rest;
To labor, and not to ask for any reward –
except that of knowing that I am doing your holy will.
AMEN.

Married Couples: In Colossians 3:12-14, we learn that we have been chosen – “And so, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. And, beyond all those things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.” Join us for our next WWME weekend September 17 – 19 and be comforted by each others heart of compassion, kindness, humility, patience and love.

Welcome Home
When I am gone, release me let me go
I have so many things to see and do.
You must not tie yourself to me with tears
Be happy that we had so many years.
I gave to you my love. You can only guess
How much you gave to me in happiness.
I thank you for the love you each have shown
But now it’s time I traveled on alone.
So grieve a little that we must
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It’s only for a while that we must part
So bless with memories within your heart.
I won’t be far away, for life goes on.
So if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can’t see or touch me, I’ll be near.
And if you listen with your heart, you’ll hear
All of my love around you soft and clear.
And then, when you must come this way alone,
I’ll greet you with a smile
And
“WELCOME HOME”
