First Sunday Of Advent

November 29, 2009

First Reading:  Jeremiah 33:14-16

The Lord tells of fulfilling the promise he had made to Israel. He will send a replacement for David, someone who “shall do what is right and just in the land,” believed by most to mean Jesus.

Second Reading: Thessalonians 3:12-14

Paul encourages the Thessalonians to be ready for the coming of the Lord. He explains that although they are conducting themselves in a way that would please God. They should always strive to do even better.

Gospel:  Luke 21:25-28.34-36

Jesus warns his followers to be prepared for the end of the world. He reminds them not to be preoccupied with unimportant events, or they will be caught unaware rather than being on watch, as they should be.

          PRAY FOR PEACE

Prayer for Generosity

Dear Lord, teach me to be generous;

Teach me to serve you as you deserve;

To give and not to count the cost;

To fight and not to heed the wounds;

To toil and not to seek for rest;

To labor, and not to ask for any reward –

except that of knowing that I am doing your holy will.

                                                  AMEN.

ADVENT BEGINS

As Advent arrives we begin a season of prayer and patient waiting. We look to the birth of the Light of the world with expectant preparation.

In anticipation of a long promised guest, we clean out the clutter in our hearts and minds. We step away from the havoc of our lives, so that we can hear in the stillness the world’s prayer,

“O COME LORD JESUS”
